In the presence of Ugandan President... Ghazaly speaking at The APRM Youth Continental Symposium
The young leader, Hassan Ghazaly, founder of the Nasser Youth Movement, participated in the APRM YOUTH CONTINENTAL SYMPOSIUM, organized by the African Peer Review Mechanism, in its third edition, which was held from 4 to 9 July 2022, at the Speke Munyonyo Resort in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, entitled “Repositioning th Youth Agenda for a Transformative Continent”, in the presence of a group of executive leaders and decision-makers of the African Union and the Ugandan government, headed by His Excellency President Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, Mrs. Rubina Nabanya, Prime Minister of Uganda, and Ms. Esther Nankia, Vice-President of the Ugandan National Youth Council, Daniel Opal, Advisor to the Ugandan President on Youth Affairs, Ms. Chido Mbemba, African Union Youth Envoy, and Mr. Lennon Monyae, Youth liasion Officer at the Continental Secretariat of the African Peer Review Mechanism, as well as 800 participants of the young leader from all over Africa, Asia and Europe.
In this context, Ghazaly’s participation came as a representative of Egypt and a speaker in a session entitled “The Role of Youth in Delivering a Just and Equitable Energy Transition,” during which he discussed the road to COP27, the concept of climate justice, and the importance of enabling young people to engage in climate action, benefit from their ideas and invest their energies.
At the beginning of the speech, Ghazaly conveyed the fragrant Egyptian greetings to the Ugandan people and the assembly of the audience. He explained that the climate file is at the top of the Egyptian state’s priorities, and in its abhorrence, many measures and mechanisms are being taken to engage and empower young people in climate action by taking advantage of their ideas in order to address climate changes and enhance their participation in COP27, stressing that the Egyptian state is working to take the voices of future generations of youth and children in decision-making processes related to this issue, as the best catalyst to achieve real, feasible and implementable results.
Ghazaly also indicated that Egypt, during its preparations for the COP27 climate conference, has two main axes: science and humankind, and was keen during those preparations on involving all ministries, organizations and stakeholders concerned with this file locally, as well as its full keenness on involving all organizations of the international community in this global event, in light of its presidency of the next climate conference.
Ghazaly concluded his speech, "Egypt is my village.. Africa is my town" in a message to his young peers stressing the importance of all of us working as a one nation to unify the voice of Africa, identify the needs of the continent, and create a space that ensures the mobilization of the voices of women and youth, in the face of climate challenges, in preparation for the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Conference, COP27 and monitoring its results and linking them to reality, because of their important role in the success of international efforts to deal with the issue of climate change, and contribute meaningfully to social and economic development.
