Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa and its Permanent Mission to the African Union organized a welcoming ceremony on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution, with the participation of the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Monique Nsanzabagnoa, and the directors of the Middle East and Asia departments and the American Affairs Department of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gebbeho Ganga and Ambassador Eshtei Tilahun, respectively, and members of the Egyptian community in Ethiopia, with the wide participation of ambassadors and representatives of embassies and international organizations accredited to Addis Ababa in the celebration, which was co-sponsored by EgyptAir.

The ambassador, Dr.  Mohamed Gad, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ethiopia and its permanent representative to the African Union, delivered a speech on this occasion in which he welcomed the attendees and reviewed the historical significance of the July 23rd revolution and its contribution to changing the features of the African continent and developing countries in general, and the role of the revolution as a driving force that continues to move and unite Egyptians in the face of regional and international challenges motivate them to achieve the goals of construction and development. In his speech, the Egyptian ambassador also praised the pivotal Egyptian role in establishing the Organization of African Unity, supporting liberation movements in Africa and the developing world, as well as the priority that Egypt attaches to its African continent and supporting the African Union’s work mechanisms for the benefit of the peoples of the continent, their stability and prosperity, especially through its wide participation in the operations of the African Union to preserve peace.  The Egyptian ambassador also stressed the historical popular and religious relations between the Egyptian and Ethiopian peoples and the importance of building on them in a way that opens broad prospects for cooperation between the two parties and achieves the interests of the two peoples, as well as Egypt's keenness on overcoming the challenges facing the bilateral relations between the two countries.

On her part, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission addressed the celebration of the 23 July Revolution as a celebration of all African liberation movements and recalled the vision of the founding fathers of the Organization of African Unity. She also praised the ongoing efforts in Egypt to establish its new republic, and the Egyptian role in pushing the work of the mechanisms of the African Union, in addition to the Egyptian hosting of a number of the most important organs of the work of the African Union, such as the Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, the African Space Agency, and the headquarters of the North Region Capacity Command, in addition to the Egyptian hosting of the COP 27 Climate Change Conference on behalf of the African continent during the current year, which will be an important forum to advance the priorities of the African continent in international climate action.

The ceremony included the announcement by the Director of the EgyptAir office in Addis Ababa, Mr. Marwa El-Fakharani, to present four gift tickets to the participants in the ceremony to travel to Cairo and the national airline would cover the costs, within the framework of the active presence and leading role of EgyptAir in the African continent.
