Dr. Shamsiyyah Umar, a graduate of the fifth cohort of the Nasser International Leadership Fellowship, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone by earning a PhD in International Relations at the age of 27. This accomplishment marks a new chapter in her academic journey, which has been characterized by steady academic progression and a strong ambition to specialize in international affairs and diplomacy.
This achievement holds particular significance in both her personal and family journey, as she has become the first female in her family of 11 children, as well as the first woman of her generation, to obtain a doctoral degree. Her PhD was preceded by an extensive academic journey that included a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in International Relations, culminating in a PhD in the same field.
