The 62th Anniversary of Niger's independence

The 62th Anniversary of Niger's independence

On this day, August 3rd, 1960, Niger formally got its independence from the French occupation. #France had started its attempts to invade Niger in the late 1980s, and the French faced hard resistance and rebellion from ethnic groups in Niger, who strongly rejected this invasion, which impeded France's from controlling the country for years.

In 1922, Niger became part of what was known as French West Africa. By 1946, Niger started gradually moving towards autonomy. In December 1958, it became a self-governing autonomous state within the French Community. Niger gained its full independence on August 3rd, 1960.

#Egypt and Niger have strong and distinguished relations, as Egypt supported Niger in its struggle, and supported its independence. The first president of Niger and its liberation leader "Hamani Diori", was a close friend to the leader "Gamal Abdel Nasser". Diori had made a historical visit to Egypt after the independence of his country, during which he expressed his country's pride in the ancient historical ties with Egypt, and the desire to restore them after the French colonization separated Niger many years from the rest of the people of the continent, and the two presidents at that time affirmed their absolute support for all the African people who are fighting for  Independence.
