“Ceremonial Protocol” discussed at the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Closing Session
The “Nasser International Leadership” Fellowship Second Cohort held a closing session entitled “Ceremonial Protocol”. Colonel Tarek Al-Shami, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship, and some officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports attended the discussion session. This came on the 8th day of the Nasser Fellowship, which is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
During his speech at the closing session, Colonel Tarek Al-Shami, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Interior, explained how important it was to respect the guidelines and etiquette used in the organization of and during an important event to avoid any diplomatic crisis that may occur, for instance, as a result of the poor organization of an official ceremony attended by Heads of State and foreign delegations.
There is a set of protocol guidelines for events and ceremonies, including the reception of guests (in particular representatives of diplomatic figures), table seating, placement of foreign flags, handshake etiquette (especially between men and women), and award ceremonies, added Al-Shami.
Al-Shami also mentioned that the ceremonial protocol differed according to the type of events (civilian or military) as well as to the timing (morning or evening), explaining that summer and winter uniforms for example change in color and design. Al-Shami stressed the importance of the significant role played by the working group responsible for the preparation and organization of any event, pointing out that this team is a key factor for achieving success. The working group makes sure that the protocol procedures and guidelines are being respected according to the nature and importance of the event, said Al-Shami. During the session, Al-Shami screened a documentary about the visit organized for the “Nasser” fellows to the Police Academy, as well as a short video about female training within the police force.
The “Nasser” fellows, at the end of the session, engaged with Colonel Tarek Al-Shami in a discussion, asking him questions to learn about the guidelines for major conferences, the reception of Heads of State or their representatives, meeting etiquette and table seating. The fellows then took several group photos with their guest in an atmosphere filled with immense joy and great hospitality, praising this excellent session full of important information.
Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship, explained the reason behind naming the fellowship after the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser: “The peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America looked up to Nasser as an exceptional leading figure. Nicknamed “Father of Africa”, Nasser is a quintessential political and historic model of leadership. He sought to support the Liberation Movements in Africa, until it acquired its independence. He also strongly contributed to the establishment of organizations that brought together the continents of Asia, Africa and Latin America, namely: The Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of African Unity, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.”
The Nasser International Leadership Fellowship aims to popularize Egypt’s longstanding experience in national institution-building, create a new generation of young transformational leaders -whose vision aligns with the directions of the Egyptian presidency- in various countries, and connect the most influential young leaders through the necessary training, skills enhancement and application of strategic visions, added Ghazali.
The “Nasser” target group consists of decision-makers from the public sector, AUYVC Graduates, executive leaders from the private sector, civil society actors, heads of national youth councils, members of local councils, young party leaders, University faculty members, researchers in strategic and intellectual research centres, members of trade unions, journalists and media professionals, and social entrepreneurs.
The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Second Cohort -themed “South-South Cooperation”- is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the National Training Academy, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national institutions, under the auspices of His Excellency President of the Arab Republic of Egypt/Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. It is scheduled to last until mid-June 2021. The Nasser Program hosts distinguished young leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
