The Ministry of Youth and Sports concludes the Nasser Leadership Fellowship
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, headed by Dr Ashraf Sobhi, organized Tuesday, the closing ceremony of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Second Cohort, with the participation of some elite young leaders representing Africa, Asia and Latin America, and Hassan Ghazali, General Coordinator of the Nasser Fellowship.
The fellowship, themed “South-South Cooperation”, was launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the National Training Academy, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national institutions, under the auspices of His Excellency President of the Arab Republic of Egypt/Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The closing ceremony began with the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by various musical performances by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Orchestra led by Maestro Yasser Mustafa. The different performances reflected the numerous cultures of the participants, as well as the friendship bond that was established between the participating delegations during the fellowship program. A short film on the activities of the Nasser Fellowship was then screened at the closing ceremony to mark this international event.
For his part, Dr Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, began his speech by thanking His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his sponsorship of various Egyptian, Arab, African and international events, which unite the whole world under the umbrella of the country of peace and civilization, Egypt.
The Youth and Sports Minister was pleased to attend this ceremony in the presence of a great rally of ambassadors, representatives of States and youth leaders from three different continents. He noted that the fellowship was named after the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser to honour his memory and accomplishments.
The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership provided the young representatives of the three continents with a great opportunity to achieve constructive cooperation in various areas, under the forged relationships between the young leaders from the three continents represented in the fellowship. This in fact reflects Egypt’s international pioneering role and its efforts towards development and reconstruction, added Sobhi.
Sobhi also called on the participating delegations to popularize Egypt's extensive security experience in their respective countries, wishing them continued success. “I wish to see you again in other future international events in Egypt”, said Sobhi to the participants.
The 2nd Nasser International Leadership Fellowship aims to create a new generation of young transformational leaders in various countries. The late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser represents an exceptional experience in “Transformational Leadership”, a term mentioned in the Africa Agenda 2063 that recognizes the efforts by the African leaders who fought against colonialism and supported the liberation movements of other African countries, said Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship.
The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership builds on Egypt’s ongoing efforts -following its chairmanship of the African Union for the year 2019- to strengthen the African youth role by providing them with all forms of support, habilitation and training, in addition to empowering them to occupy leadership positions, in order to capitalize on their capacities and insights, added Ghazali.
He also explained that the Nasser Fellowship Second Edition had extended to include youth leaders from Asia and Latin America in addition to Africa. 100 young leaders from the three continents were selected to participate in the Nasser International Fellowship. The “Nasser” target group consists of decision-makers from the public sector, AUYVC Graduates, executive leaders from the private sector, civil society actors, heads of national youth councils, members of local councils, young party leaders, University faculty members, researchers in strategic and intellectual research centres, members of trade unions, journalists and media professionals, and social entrepreneurs.
The Nasser Leadership Fellowship -1st Cohort was launched in June 2019 under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, targeting young African executive leaders from different professional disciplines within their own communities, with the objective of popularizing Egypt’s development experience in institution/national character building.
