Nasser Fellowship round-table discussion on “The Egyptian Armed Forces’ Efforts in Building National Cadres”

The “Nasser International Leadership” Fellowship organized a round-table discussion entitled “The Egyptian Armed Forces’ Efforts in Building National Cadres”. The session was attended by Dr Khaled Fahmy, Advisor to the Strategic Studies Center of the Armed Forces, Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship, and some officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This closing session was moderated by one of the “Nasser” fellows Ms Esraa El-Aqaad.

This came on the 11th day of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership themed “South-South Cooperation”. The fellowship is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the National Training Academy, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national institutions, under the auspices of His Excellency President of the Arab Republic of Egypt/Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. It is scheduled to last until mid-June 2021. The Nasser Program hosts distinguished young leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

During his speech at the closing session, Brigadier General Dr Khaled Fahmy explained the role of Egypt’s Armed Forces in building cadres in various areas, thereby benefiting Egyptian, Arab and African society. Egypt, under Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, plays its mandated role at the regional level, demonstrated by the support accorded to African countries in numerous areas, added Fahmy. He praised the role of the Nasser Fellowship in training and qualifying young people through joint youth cooperation between Africa, Asia and Latin America. He noted that Egypt had hosted several international youth-related events, especially in the latter period.

Dr Fahmy reviewed the efforts of the General Command organs of the Armed Forces in cadres-building, for instance the Military Technical College and the Nasser Military Academy. He also touched upon the role of the known military defense forces in qualifying national cadres. He stressed that Egypt’s Armed Forces facilities, such as the Military of Defense Language Institute, were capable of achieving the desired goals regarding building and qualifying cadres in various areas and disciplines.

The Advisor to the Strategic Studies Center confirmed the keenness of the Egyptian Armed Forces to prepare national cadres, in addition to building their scientific and technological capacities, in accordance with Egypt’s strategies and experiences. The aim is to create cadres with high combat skills capable of innovation, development and creativity, thus achieving excellence in protecting Egypt’s national security at all levels, explained Fahmy.

He stressed the significant role of the African Union in addressing terrorism through the African Peace and Security Council in addition, highlighting the need for further cooperation and communication between countries to succeed in countering terrorism.

At the end of the session, the Nasser Fellowship participants engaged in a debate with Dr Fahmy to learn more about the theme of this session. They then took several group photos with the guest, while expressing their happiness with such a special informative session.

Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship, said: “The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Second Cohort is based on several frame of references, among the first of which is “South-South Cooperation” (which is also the theme of the Nasser Fellowship Second Edition), explained Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator General of the Nasser Fellowship. South-south cooperation refers to the development cooperation among countries in the Global South, in the political, economic, social, cultural, environmental or technical areas. In addition, it is a tool used for exchanging knowledge, experiences, successful initiatives and technologies, to promote trade in Southern countries. This acts as a manifestation of solidarity between the peoples and countries of the South, thus contributes to achieving their national well-being and self-reliance nationally and collectively. This cooperation has contributed to increasing trade and foreign direct investment flow, as well as advancing regional integration among Southern countries. This cooperation can be bilateral, regional or interregional, and it can include two or more developing countries.”

The Nasser International Leadership Fellowship aims to popularize Egypt’s longstanding experience in national institution-building, create a new generation of young transformational leaders -whose vision aligns with the directions of the Egyptian presidency- in various countries, and connect the most influential young leaders through the necessary training, skills enhancement and application of strategic visions, added Ghazali.

The “Nasser” target group consists of decision-makers from the public sector, AUYVC Graduates, executive leaders from the private sector, civil society actors, heads of national youth councils, members of local councils, young party leaders, University faculty members, researchers in strategic and intellectual research centers, members of trade unions, journalists and media professionals, and social entrepreneurs.

The Nasser Leadership Fellowship -1st Cohort was launched in June 2019 under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, targeting young African executive leaders from different professional disciplines within their own communities, with the objective of popularizing Egypt’s development experience in institution/national character building.
