The Nasser International Forum announced in a statement that a visit to the Governorate of Alexandria was organized as part of the ninth day’s activities of the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership. The fellowship is currently taking place during the month of May under the theme “Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years Representing the Issues of the Global South.” It is held under the generous patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and in partnership with the United Nations. The program hosts approximately 150 young men and women from around the world, including executive-level specialists and a number of influential youth leaders active in their communities.

The Nasser International Forum stated that the delegations participating in the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship were accompanied on their visit to Alexandria by Major General Ismail El-Far, First Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports for Youth Affairs and Government Relations, Alaa Desouky, Undersecretary of the Ministry and Head of the Central Administration for Youth Development, and Hassan Ghazaly, Founder of the Nasser International Forum and Director of the Youth Office of the Global South.

According to the Forum’s statement, the visit to Alexandria included a stop at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, described as a beacon of knowledge and a symbol of culture. The participants were welcomed by Dr. Marwa El-Wakeely, Head of the Academic Research Sector at the library, who conveyed the greetings of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library. She emphasized that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina serves as Egypt’s window to the world and is considered a distinguished scientific and cultural institution at the international level.

The participants toured the library and learned about its foundation, its unique architectural design inspired by the shape of the sun disk, and the diverse heritage it holds that represents a wide range of cultures. These features have made it one of the most prominent symbols of science and culture regionally and globally. The participants explored different sections of the library and viewed the artistic murals that reflect Egypt’s Pharaonic history, social peace, religious tolerance, and the most famous mosques and churches in the country. They were also introduced to the library’s website and the digital services it offers for remote access.

As part of their tour, the delegations visited several of the library’s museums, including the Manuscripts and Rare Books Museum, the Antiquities Museum, the “Alexandria Through the Ages” exhibition (Dr. Mohamed Awad’s collection), and the Shadi Abdel Salam Hall.

The Nasser International Forum concluded its statement by noting that the visit ended with a free sightseeing tour in the city of Alexandria. The participants expressed their joy at visiting the Bride of the Mediterranean, seeing its iconic landmarks, and enjoying its climate. They also shared their appreciation for the visit to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, describing it as a beacon of knowledge. They expressed great admiration for Egypt, its people, its rich history, and its diverse civilization. Participants documented their visit with photos and videos and shared their experiences on their personal social media accounts, showing their excitement and happiness throughout the visit.

Hassan Ghazaly, Founder of the Nasser International Forum, stated that the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership is committed to introducing international youth participants to Egypt’s civilizational landmarks and the efforts of the political leadership to achieve a developmental breakthrough across different fields and sectors. This is evident through the program’s visits to government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the Egyptian Senate, the Tenth of Ramadan Correction and Rehabilitation Centers Complex, the Air Force Museum, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and several sites still to be visited in the coming days, including the Egyptian Police Academy.

It is worth noting that the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership is a leading platform for preparing a new generation of young leaders at both the regional and international levels. The fifth edition of the fellowship reflects Egypt’s ongoing commitment to supporting the causes of the Global South, promoting intercultural dialogue, and sharing developmental experiences and leadership models in the fields of governance, administration, and community work.
