Walid Hakiki... Over 30 Years of Expertise in Water Resources Planning and Management in Egypt

Eng. Walid Hakiki is considered one of Egypt’s most prominent experts in the field of water resources planning and management, with a career spanning over three decades. Since 1998, he has dedicated his efforts to developing ambitious policies, strategies, and plans to advance the water sector, playing an instrumental role in shaping the future of water management in the country.
Hakiki has held several key leadership positions within the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. Notably, he served as Director of the National Water Resources Plan Project, Director of the Institutional Reform Unit, Head of the Central Department for Water Resources and Uses, and Head of the Central Department for Studies and Research. These roles enabled him to directly oversee vital issues impacting Egypt’s water security.
In addition to his governmental work, Eng. Walid Hakiki has served as a consultant to various regional and international organizations, broadening his expertise and fostering new avenues for cooperation in the water sector. He also held the position of official spokesperson for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, representing the ministry in media engagements and at national and international forums. He currently serves as Head of the Planning Sector at the Ministry and as Executive Director of the Secretariat of Cairo Water Week, which has become a prestigious international platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange in the field of water.
