The Egyptian people’s patience was not going to last for more than one year, hence all of its parties and classes were ungratified with the status quo. It was a year of unqualified political ruling of the country, many idle bodies of authority, deteriorating economy, conditions that did not commensurate with the prestige and statehood of a great power in the arab world like egypt, gibberish decisions and talks, the Muslim Brotherhood administration, the state of insecurity, diplomatic crisis between the presidency and all state bodies, political and national forces and media figures as well as Morsi’s presidential pardon to a number (17) of imprisoned islamists including members of islamist groups and terrorist groups.

Despite all the events Egypt was going through, the Egyptian Armed Forces General Command did not stand helpless during that year. It, instead, tried and seeked time and again to find political solutions, bring to President Morsi’s awareness and explain to him the situation and conditions of the state and the necessity of making decisions to settle the economic, political and diplomatic crisis. Moreover, it held meetings with Morsi to thoroughly clarify and explain to him the economic, security and diplomatic state of the country and demanded him to settle for reconciliation and negotiations with all political and media entities and forces of the people. Despite all this advice, the Ministry of Defense General Secretariat submitted to the presidency a daily report covering the country’s state of affairs attached to it a recommendation letter entailing the Ministry of Defense suggestion to solve the crisis; However, the presidency could not care less.

The late Yasser Rizq brought up all these events during a show hosted by Ahmed Mossa and it was of a huge surprise what Rizq revealed to many entities of the Egyptian people that were clueless about the details and behind-the-scenes of the events. The TV series Al-Ikhtiyar 3 (The Choice 3) documents all these events as well as other events and details about that crucial period which are narrated and neutrally documented in Yassir Rizq’s book entitled “Between January’s Anger and June’s Salvation”.

Then comes the 30th of June when millions in all governorates revolted against Mohammed Morsi for nearly three days. On the 3rd of

June Lieutenant General Abdul-Fattah Assisi came to unseat Mohammed Morsi and hand over the administration to Judge Adly Mansour, President of the Supreme Constitutional Court. The people demonstrated on the first day when fatalities and injuries, burning down of the Muslim Brotherhood’s offices and clashes between advocates and opposition all took place. It was the afternoon of the second day (1st of June) when the Military Command delivered a speech giving political forces a 48 hour notice to shoulder the burden of such a historic moment and declaring the future road map to be carried out by the Military Command if the people’s demands were not realized within the 48 hour period.

On the the 3rd of June, after the notice had terminated and after meetings with political, religious and youth forces, Abdul-Fattah Assisi, Minister of Defense, declared the end of President Morsi’s administration and the President of the Supreme Constitutional Court as the Interim President.

The Egyptian Armed Forces, the shield and sword guarding the country.

Long Live Egypt!
