Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan
On this day in 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan, after a demand for independence that has lasted since the Republic of Sudan's independence in 1956.
The efforts of the South continued to demand independence, passing through a number of obstacles, crises, and conflicts, as well as peaceful negotiations, until the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in Naivasha in January 2005, between the Southern and Northern parties. In January 2011, a referendum took place on whether people of South Sudan wanted to be in one country with Sudan or gain the Independence, and the result of the vote came with 98.83% in favor of independence.
On July 9th, 2011, South Sudan gained independence and became the country number 193 in the United Nations, which makes it the newest country in the world.
We wish the brotherly people of South Sudan peace and prosperity.
