The Nasser International Forum announced the organization of a panel discussion titled "Egypt’s Role in Global Peacekeeping" as part of the seventh day of the *5th edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership*, held under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The session was attended by *Dr. Ashraf Sobhi*, Minister of Youth and Sports; *Major General Osama Abdel Hamid*, Commander of the Popular Defense Forces; *Major General Mohamed Ibrahim*, Director of the Egyptian Center for Peacekeeping Training; and *Hassan Ghazaly*, anthropologist and Founder of the Nasser International Leadership Forum. The discussion welcomed approximately 150 young leaders from across the globe, representing a diverse array of executive disciplines, alongside prominent and active youth in their communities.
According to the statement, *Dr. Ashraf Sobhi* and *Major General Osama Abdel Hamid* opened the session by emphasizing Egypt’s vital role in promoting and sustaining peace throughout the region and supporting UN peacekeeping operations, particularly across Africa. They highlighted Egypt’s commitment through both military contributions and the training of peacekeeping personnel.
*Major General Mohamed Ibrahim*, Director of the Egyptian Center for Peacekeeping Training, stated that Egypt has played a pioneering role in peacekeeping since joining UN missions in 1960, starting with the Congo mission. He noted the contributions of *Dr. Boutros Ghali*, who supported the expansion of peacekeeping in Africa. The Center has since trained thousands of personnel, earning Egypt a top-tier ranking among peacekeeping nations. The Center also deploys specialized units across Africa, focusing on building capacities and protecting UN training facilities, reflecting a humanitarian-first approach.
*Ibrahim* added that since 1998, the Center has operated under the Egyptian Police Academy, delivering studies, training programs, and workshops in coordination with the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. These include specialized police training, civilian protection in conflict zones, and enhancing women’s roles in peacekeeping. Training is provided in multiple languages by field experts. The Center also leads initiatives across Africa, in cooperation with the UN, to build peace and address climate issues as part of conflict resolution strategies. He emphasized the vital role of youth in peacekeeping efforts, describing them as the cornerstone of future peace strategies.
*Hassan Ghazaly*, Founder of the Nasser International Forum, reiterated Egypt’s historical commitment to peace and stability. He underscored the forum’s goal of highlighting Egypt’s peacebuilding efforts and showcasing its model in capacity-building and promoting a culture of peace. The Forum, he stated, is a unique platform for global youth dialogue and experience-sharing, fostering leadership grounded in human development and sustainable peace.
*Yara Ouda*, representative of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), highlighted the Center’s eight specialized programs in peace and security, women’s safety, and anti-discrimination. She stressed Egypt’s sustained commitment to deploying peacekeeping missions and the importance of the Egyptian model in both preventing conflict and building local capacities. She distinguished between peacekeeping and peacebuilding and praised Egypt as a regional and global reference in these areas. CCCPA also partners with Egyptian ministries to deliver international training on peace and development.
The opening session concluded with the screening of a documentary on the Egyptian Center’s peacekeeping efforts, emphasizing the role of Egyptian women. Egypt was recognized as one of the top ten countries globally in empowering women within peacekeeping, with *350 female officers* deployed in international missions. These efforts reflect Egypt’s dedication to gender inclusion and peacebuilding through specialized training programs.

An Inspiring Tale”*, highlighting the solar alignment phenomenon and the monumental efforts led by *Dr. Tharwat Okasha* and UNESCO to save the temples from flooding after the construction of the High Dam. He detailed how the temples were moved piece-by-piece—5,000 blocks weighing over 250,000 tons—based on the concept developed by *Dr. Ahmed Osman* and executed during President *
*Gamal Abdel Nasser’s* era.
The evening featured the screening of a short documentary marking the official celebration of the temple relocation—a project involving 40 countries and UNESCO, costing over 15.5 million EGP, and seen as a milestone in global heritage preservation.
The visit concluded with the screening of:
*"The Eighth Wonder"*, a rare documentary by *John Feeney* featuring over 80 sketches by artist *Hussein Bicar*, chronicling the rescue of Abu Simbel. *"The Passage"*, a national film dramatizing the Egyptian Army’s valor during the War of Attrition post-1967, directed by *Sherif Arafa*and starring *Ahmed Ezz*, *Ahmed Rizk*, and *Hend Sabry*.

The participants expressed great admiration for the films, describing them as emotionally and intellectually enriching, offering deep insights into Egypt’s modern history and the values of leadership, resilience, and collective achievement. They praised the cultural dimension of the fellowship, which gave them a deeper appreciation for Egypt’s historical and artistic heritage.
Hassan Ghazaly remarked that the visit to the Opera House was a pivotal component of the fellowship’s cultural program, underscoring the importance of connecting emerging leaders with symbols of modern and ancient Egyptian civilization. He emphasized that the Opera House is more than a cultural institution—it is a space of human connection and expression, reflecting the Forum’s mission to foster cross-cultural dialogue through art and culture.
It is noteworthy that the 5th edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership aims to share Egypt’s institutional development experience, enhance global youth dialogue, and focus on issues such as youth, women, peace and security, South-South cooperation, and the role of the Global South in supporting international justice and sustainable development.
