Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister wins FASU presidency, Nasser Fellowship alumnus announces it

The Nasser Fellowship and Movement for International Leadership congratulated Prof. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, on winning the election by a landslide victory for the position of President of the Federation of Africa University Sports, which started this morning in the Republic of South Africa. Competing with his counterpart, the former President of the South African Federation, Dr. Sobhi achieved a total of 20 votes against 3 votes. The victory was announced by  Ivan Bwowe, a graduate of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership as the Electoral Commission Commissioner and a member of the Federation's Legal Committee.

In a related context, Nasser's Fellowship indicated that the young Ugandan leader, " Ivan Bwowe" , is recognized for his pioneering career in public work, especially in the sports field. He graduated from the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies, worked as a coordinator for the Fortune 500 investment club, and joined the International Chamber of Commerce and the National Arbitration Institute. In addition, he is a member of the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes of the World Bank.

For his part, Hassan Ghazaly, founder and general coordinator of the Nasser Movement and Fellowship for International Leadership, expressed his great happiness with the victory of the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports. He described this as a new victory that counts for Egypt as a whole, stressing that this is a real and tangible indication of the great confidence that Egypt enjoys in African countries. He also pointed out that the Egyptian state was able to achieve overwhelming success in the field of bilateral and international relations by investing in the energies of youth as a soft power capable of influencing and participating in decision-making locally and internationally. He also referred to the role played by the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership throughout its past editions, pointing out that it was able to create real ambassadors and a global youth network that has resonated with about 65 countries working to support each other in various aspects of practical life.

It is noteworthy that the Nasser Fellowship was launched in July 2019, as an (African-African) fellowship, coinciding with Egypt’s presidency of the AU, with the participation of 120 young leaders with multiple disciplines within the executive structures of the countries of the continent, representing about 28 African countries, under the auspices of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt's Prime Minister.

It should also be noted that the fellowship expanded its scope during the following editions. The second edition came in June 2021, with the participation of 42 countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America under the slogan “South-South Cooperation”. Then, in its third edition, it expanded to include non-aligned and friendly countries, which was held in June 2022 with the participation of 65 countries around the world. The fellowship is also in the process of launching the fourth edition, next June 2023, under the slogan “Non-Aligned Youth and South-South Cooperation”, with the participation of about 90 countries, with journalistic sponsorship from the National Press Authority, and political sponsorship from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic.
