The Cairo International Center: An Egyptian Pillar for Promoting Peace and Building Stability in Africa and the World

In the heart of Cairo, and specifically since 1994, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched an ambitious initiative through the establishment of the Cairo Regional Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa. This center emerged as an intellectual and operational beacon supporting peace and security efforts across the African continent. Over the years, the center has evolved beyond being a mere training initiative to reflect Egypt’s pivotal role on both regional and international stages.
In 2017, a strategic transformation occurred with Prime Ministerial Decree No. 1396, which granted the center legal personality and restructured it under the new name: The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA). This reform placed the center under the authority of Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and expanded its geographic and thematic mandate to include developing countries, particularly in Africa, the Arab world, and Islamic regions.
The center’s role extends beyond organizing training courses, seminars, and conferences. It also conducts strategic research, develops policy recommendations, and builds the capacities of individuals and institutions in the fields of peace and security — especially in post-conflict countries. With an impressive track record, the center has held over 300 training courses and trained more than 30,000 participants from 96 countries, including 50 African states, making it one of the largest specialized training platforms in the region.
CCCPA operates through eight main thematic programs addressing a wide range of contemporary issues, including:
• Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding
• Preventing Extremism Leading to Terrorism
• Women, Peace and Security
• Youth, Peace and Security
• Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR)
• Transnational Threats
• Climate, Peace, and Development
Each program represents a smart response to evolving global dynamics and reflects the center’s commitment to providing relevant and forward-looking training and research content.
In delivering its programs, the center coordinates with key Egyptian ministries — most notably the Ministries of Defense and Interior — and maintains international partnerships with the United Nations, the African Union, and various development partners. These collaborations enhance the center’s outreach and impact across continents.
CCCPA is also committed to offering its programs in multiple languages and organizing field visits across several African countries — a testament to its hands-on approach and dedication to deep engagement with the communities it aims to support. The center is also expanding its partnerships to include regional and international stakeholders in the peace and security arena. More than just a training institution, the Cairo International Center stands as a true embodiment of Egypt’s steadfast vision for supporting regional stability and sustainable peace. It is a living example of Egypt’s capacity to combine diplomacy, expertise, and intellectual leadership in service of Africa and the broader global community.
