The Library of Nasser's Father
The Library of Nasser's Father
Pages from the life of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser were written here between this ancient house's corners and walls located at No. (8) Kanawati Street, in the popular Bakos neighborhood in Alexandria, that house that witnessed the childhood of one of the most important Egyptian presidents and even one of the influential leaders in the world. The house is located on AlKanawati Street, off the main Mustafa Kamel Street in the Bakoos neighborhood, with an area of total 160 meters divided into 5 rooms. It is a house consisting of only one floor with an external gate from the house and then the internal gate of the house. After Gamal Abdel Nasser’s family left Alexandria, the house was sold to a family called Al-Sawy family. Then, after the death of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, President Anwar Sadat decided to seek to buy the house and turn it into a museum as it carried Nasser’s childhood and memories, and had a special place for him and in appreciation of him. It must be converted into a museum that carries his belongings, and then the Governorate of Alexandria purchased the house for 30 thousand pounds to allocate it as a museum. However, it remained for many years under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture; no procedures were taken in it until 2016. The Ministry of Culture developed it and turned it into an audiovisual museum and a library containing various books for children and adults.
