Launch of the 2nd “Nasser International Leadership” Fellowship Program at the Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum

The first activity of the "Nasser International Leadership" Fellowship Second Cohort was launched today, Tuesday, at the Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum. This Fellowship is organized -under the theme “South-South Cooperation”- by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, chaired by Dr Ashraf Sobhi, in cooperation with the National Training Academy, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national institutions. It is held under the auspices of His Excellency President of the Arab Republic of Egypt/ Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and is scheduled to last until 15 June. Some distinguished youth leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America are participating in the Nasser Fellowship.

On the first day of the “Nasser International Leadership” Fellowship Program, the participants paid a visit to Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum.

The House-Museum of Leader Gamal Abdel Nasser is located in the area of Manshiyet Al-Bakri, east of Cairo. It tells the story of a critical time in the history of Egypt and the Arab nation, as it once was the house of Gamal Abdel Nasser and his family.

After the death of Abdel Nasser, his family continued to live in this house, based on a government decree. However, the house passed to the ownership of the Egyptian state after the death of Nasser’s wife. In 2007, a presidential decree was issued to turn Nasser’s House into a museum.

The Fine Arts Sector, in mid-2011, worked on the construction. The Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum was then inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on September 28, 2016, in conjunction with the forty-sixth anniversary of the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser on 28 September 1970.

Mr Hassan Ghazali, Coordinator-General of the “Nasser International Leadership” Fellowship, indicated that during the visit to Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum, the participants inspected all parts of the museum, including the entrance, reception, and lobby. The current building includes Nasser’s home furniture: the meeting room, living room, President’s office, master bedroom, and salon. In addition to Manshiyet al-Bakri corner, the museum displays many personal documents and collectables of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, among which there are letters, his personal and family photos, his clothes, cameras, pens, military medals, and other memories.

Inside the Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum, there is a historic panorama that tells the story of a leader's struggle, documenting a significant period of time in Egypt's history from the outbreak of the 23 July Revolution of 1952 until the death of President Abdel Nasser.

Mr Ghazali explained that this visit allowed the participants to learn about the Egyptian national and cultural achievement documented during Gamal Abdel Nasser’s life, showcasing his struggle and sacrifices.

“The Nasser Fellowship participants attended a session that was held on the side-lines of the visit to Gamal Abdel Nasser Museum. This session was attended by Ambassador Alaa Roushdy, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and International Security, and Senior Economic Adviser Gamal Khaled Gamal Abdel Nasser, grandson of the late Leader Gamal Abdel Nasser. He spoke about the humanitarian side of Gamal Abdel Nasser and his skilful leadership. Leader Gamal Abdel Nasser was a true humanitarian, serving as a model of leadership for others.” Added Hassan Ghazali.

Hassan noted that the participants took group photos at the end of their visit, expressing their respect and profound appreciation for Egypt and all Egyptians for their history and the role played by their loyal leaders, namely the late Leader Gamal Abdel Nasser. Nasser was a great Egyptian and Arab leader and one of the significant leaders in the history of all humanity during the twentieth century.

The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership builds on Egypt’s ongoing efforts -following its chairmanship of the African Union for the year 2019- to strengthen the African youth role by providing them with all forms of support, habilitation and training, in addition to empowering them to occupy leadership positions, in order to capitalize on their capacities and insights. It is also one of the executive mechanisms of the following: Egypt Vision 2030 -10 principles of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization -Africa Agenda 2063 -Sustainable Development Goals 2030 -South - South Cooperation -African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth -African Youth Charter.

The Nasser Leadership Fellowship -1st Cohort was launched in June 2019 under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, targeting young African executive leaders from different professional disciplines within their own communities, with the objective of popularizing Egypt’s development experience in institution/national character building.
