Excerpts from President Gamal Abdel Nasser's speech at a youth camp in Marsa Matruh in 1953
Each one of us must trust himself and his capabilities, and there is no difference in that between poor and rich, or weak and strong; A good citizen who believes in his ideals can influence the environment. His influence will be strong and productive, and know that the reason for our delay and tire in the past is that we did not trust ourselves. ..
Some may ask: What is my impact on society when my capabilities are limited? Let these people know that good deeds and a good effect have their impressive results. The nation consists of individuals, and if individuals are reformed, the nation will be reformed... If each of us works in his surroundings to raise the level of others in his environment in which he works and lives, then the country will eventually obtain a set of sound actions, the result of which will be raising the standard of living for the group.
